November News
Youd be forgiven if you nearly mistook Jonah for a sleeping Ali G in these photos. Red track suit, striped even, sleeping on a leather chair. See, its actually his "Red Fireman's Outfit" not to confused for his "Blue Fireman's Outfit". Jonah is so into fire fighting and has been for nearly a year. He has a fleet of red fire vehicles and reads fire fighting books and watches Fireman Sam dvds. He collects things that are his favorite color red and squirrels them away into a special basket. He is actually obsessed with the color red.
onto other news,
I love fall because there is such a sense of healthy decay in the air. gardens are wild and dying, with many plants continuing on. leaves are falling and rotting. there is currently a whole pumpkin rotting in the compost pile. there are actually compost piles all over the garden and the property and its neat to think of them as future garden beds and places to grow things.
apples are waiting to be sauced, cidered and pied. garlic is waiting to go in the ground. im baking more these days- bread, beet green filo pie, kale chips, zucchini bread, banana bread, roast chicken and veg. yogurt is still doing its fermentation thing, as well as kombucha. we are nearly to the end of the latest batch of jason's kim chi. its the best ever and i will remind myself to ask him to make more.
the cob house carries on and the walling is nearly complete! We've been soaking the clay and then whizzing it up with sand in a garbage can with our nifty Aussie mixer. then its dumped on a tarp and the straw mixed in by foot. And the roof is going on! in big chunky gorgeous beams from trees we took down on the land. yesterday i mixed cob and today i moved to the building site and built walls with it. i also gave the building site a good cleaning today. i think i fell in love a bit more with it at that point. worked in the greenhouse, then cooked dinner and taught a yoga class. gee whiz. life is good or what?
