summer!!!

summer arrived right on time this year. july 5 to be exact. we've had hot sunny summer days ever since, though with some rain and tremendous thunder thrown in just to remind us that we live in the pnw. summer here is like the most amazing dessert that you wait and wait and wait for, or a holiday that is brief but astonishingly phenomenal. it makes the rest of the year totally worth it, not that the rest of the year is unpleasant at all. its just that summer is totally divine. summer is a time of berries, of hanging laundry on the line, of worrying that the garden is too dry. a time of flying kites while wearing t shirts and little else, of going to the beach but not getting in the water. a time of eating seasonal fruit every meal of the day. a time of going barefoot in the house and outside. a time of open windows and cross breezes. a time of blue skies that are bluer than blue. a time of sparrows nesting in the roof and enjoying the sounds of the babies chirping as they grow. summer is a time of skirts and shorts and sunhats and homemade popsicles. summer is a time when fela is the happiest- he suntans and hides in tall grasses and smiles a lot. summer is time of daily garden harvest and foot scrubbing. summer is a time of mosquito bites and salads. summer is a time of sharp snow capped mountains and wildflowers and big river flows. summer is a time of cool nights and foggy mornings and hot days. summer means bbqs and margaritas and festive farmers markets and social gatherings. its a time of lots of visits from friends and family. summer is magical.
